A porn star might be running against U.S. Sen. David Vitter, but former Gov. Kathleen Blanco is rejecting Vitter’s invitation to enter the race.

Vitter told WWL-TV that he might make a campaign contribution to Blanco if she runs against him in 2010.

“I’m a little tempted to get out my checkbook and write her campaign fund a check to encourage [Blanco],” Vitter, R-La., told the New Orleans television station. “That’s sort of what I think of it. Quite frankly, she would not be an intimidating opponent to me.”

Blanco, a Democrat, said in a statement that she is declining the offer.

“David Vitter is a national embarrassment. He deserves a strong opponent — it won’t be me, but he will get one,” Blanco said.

There are some who think porn star and former stripper Stormy Daniels is the right opponent, according to a group called DraftStormy.

Daniels, a Baton Rouge native, is the subject of a draft effort to persuade her to run. Her supporters handed out DraftStormy beads at Washington Mardi Gras festivities.

Daniels appeared in the movie “Knocked Up” as well as in such videos as “Trailer Trash Nurses 6” and “Finally Legal 7.”

Daniels said in an interview posted on You Tube that had she not been a porn star, she would have been a veterinarian or a journalist.

Vitter came under public scrutiny when his name popped up in a call girl ring investigation.
